Randeep Hooda: Fitness Regime
Randeep started working out when he was in the tenth standard. Randeep says his body responds very quickly. He can gain and lose weight very quickly.
My workout sessions are shorter but intense. I don’t chit chat in the gym. That’s what most of the people go there for, to chit chat and check out other people. I am really focused in the gym. Sometimes I don’t even see people who say ‘hi’ to me.
- My workouts never last beyond 25 minutes. I don’t think it’s necessary to workout for two hours if we can put in intense workout for 25 minutes. In 25 minutes I may do 25 or even 35 sets. I only stop to drink water.
- Cardio is the second and most important step of your workout regime, after stretching.
- I like training my chest and back. I hate training my calves and abs.
- I live on the 13th floor and climb up the stairs.
- I ride a horse for two-three hours a day. I play various games.
- Lovemaking is a great exercise. One should do it regularly and as often as possible.
I like gyms which don’t have an air conditioner because you really sweat it out then. I am ‘old school’ in that way. I also love working out bare feet.
Onscreen, I have looked my fittest in: Karma Konfessions and Holi, and Risk.
Randeep Hooda: Diet
As a struggler, I have starved a lot so I really appreciate food. I have got a big sweet tooth but I eat anything and everything. I don’t live to eat but I do eat to live well.
I love dairy products and chocolates. I eat about 12 to 15 eggs a day. I love eggs.
Randeep Hooda’s Incredible Weight Loss for ‘Sarbjit’
For the movie Sarbjit, Randeep lost 18 kgs in a span of 28 days.
“I was a muscular 94 kg at the time and while it’s easy to burn fat, it’s hard to lose muscle. I was expecting to shoot the portions when Sarabjit was a pahalwan in his village and then slowly shed weight. The change in the shooting schedule came as a shock and led to a period of physical and mental torture.”
To get the ‘skeletal’ look, Hooda went on a strict diet that allowed him only 500-600 calories per day, with a few cheat days where he was allowed starch. Proteins and greens constituted the major part of his diet.
“I overdid this too, going on a zero calorie diet without realising the body needs sugar to function. The lack of it almost drove me crazy. I was thinking about food all the time, there were days when I was so hungry, I couldn’t sleep. There came a point when I wasn’t even allowed an apple and was so emaciated I could barely walk.”
During this phase, he would crave food items like “parathas with white makkhan” and “hot chocolate fudge from Nirula’s”, often sketching them to compensate for not being able to actually eat them. He stopped socialising and a drink on New Year’s Eve made him “dizzy” and forced him to return home.
Randeep Hooda: Advice to Aspiring Fitness Freaks
- I have four packs but I am sure I can go to gym and get a six pack. Six packs is not hard to get.
- Size zero, however, is absolutely atrocious.
- You should only workout as much as you can sustain.
- Must haves’ in your gym bag – Trainers, fresh pair of socks, towel, water.
