August 29th is celebrated as National Sports Day in India. The date has been chosen as a mark of respect for the legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand, whose birth day falls on the same day.
On the National Sports Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians to focus more on sports and fitness-related activities as it will contribute towards a healthier India.
He also lauded Indians sportspersons and said that this year has been great for Indian sports.
“I salute all those who have represented India in various sporting events. Their hardwork and resolve has led to several milestones. This year has been great for our sporting fraternity, with the Indian athletes excelling in various tournaments including Asian Games 2018 and CWG,” PM Modi tweeted.
