Farhan Akhtar Fitness
For his role in the movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Farhan Akhtar worked out for 5 hours on most days for almost two years to look his part in the movie. Farhan maintained a very strict diet for this film, and used to have 6 meals a day.
To prepare for the role, Farhan focused on these exercises:
Altitude running: Running on mountain trails including steep uphill’s, long runs and quick running.
Cycling: Weekly sessions of cycling preferably on mountain trails
Running up the stairs: Fast running on stairs to build up stamina
Lydiard hill training workout: Running with high knee lifts and vigorous arm movement.
Here’s what Farhan’s daily intake would be:
- Breakfast: Fresh fruit juice, egg white or scrambled egg.
- Lunch: A snack of dried fruits, low-fat digestive biscuits and kebabs.
- Evening: Protein shake.
- Dinner: He didn’t eat much at night and before bed he takes protein shake.
Here’s the workout plan that Farhan followed.
Farhan corrected his sleeping pattern. He was in bed by 10 pm and up by 5.30 am.
Athletic training: At 6.30 am, I’d start my athletic training for one-and-a-half hours of sprints and flexibility exercises.
After resting for six hours, it was time for functional training (working against gravity with your body weight; climbing up a rope or hanging from a height) and abdominal exercises. This ensured flexibility.
At 6 pm, he’d spend two hours on weight training, doing a combination of Hypertrophy Strength Training (HST) and Tabata. HST induces the fastest muscle growth over an extended period without the use of steroids. It involves increasing the load on muscles consistently with every session.
After three months, I moved to Tabata, a high intensity workout in which I had to pull off maximum repetitions in a given period.
In the last six months, when I was supposed to slim down, I moved to endurance training with weights.
Eating routine: Farhan gave up rice, chapati and bread. Instead, he got his carbs from fruits and vegetables. To bulk up for Look 1 (soldier), he was having 3,500 calories a day and five litres of water. His diet remained the same for Look 2 (runner), but the portions became smaller and I was down to 1800 calories.
“I would have an omelette of six egg whites and mushrooms with orange juice for breakfast. The food was bland; I couldn’t have salt because the water retention would make me look puffy. Two hours later, I’d have a bowl of oatmeal with half a glass of skimmed milk. Half an hour later, I’d follow it up with nariyal paani.
Lunch was sauteed broccoli, asparagus, beans, baby cabbage and pak choy (250 gms) along with grilled chicken (150 gms), all made in olive oil. I’d have a protein shake after two hours. Berries were the only fruits I could eat as they are low in glycemic index and provide the right antioxidants. Every evening, I’d have a bowl of boiled chana or moong salad with cucumber, tomatoes and a low calorie dressing.
Dinner was the same as lunch, but basa fish or salmon replaced the chicken. Before going to bed, I’d have a protein shake”.
Salman Khan
After Salman Khan’s first movie was lunched, everybody started talking about his physique. Salman was among a handful of heroes who had a great body, besides good looks of-course. Salman went shirt-less in several songs making all the girls weak on their knees; all the guys wanted to emulate his macho looks & ripped body.
Salman has maintained his superb physique for over two decades now, and has inspired an entire generation of actors across the board. In recent years, he has turned into a personal trainer/fitness consultant for his fellow actors, giving them tips on workout and diet.
Besides working out for a couple of hours in the gym, Salman also enjoys cycling on the roads near Bandra/Juhu. Occasionally, he does cycling for hours, as an alternative to his regular exercises and cardiovascular routine.
Kareena Kapoor
Kareena Kapoor takes her fitness very seriously; the manner in which she got rid of her post-pregnancy weight is a testimony to that. Recently, a fan page of Kareena Kapoor shared a picture where the actress is seen doing several advanced Yoga poses.
Arjun Rampal
Arjun Rampal was always admired for his suave looks but it was his his super toned looks in Ra.One that made everyone start talking about his physique. Rigorous workout sessions spanning over two months helped Arjun build the physique that was required for his role in Ra.One.
The best thing about his body is that it looks just about right – not bulky, not overly lean, yet sexy!
Arjun trains for around two hours in the gym (prefers noon time to work out). About 40 minutes of various cardio, 10 minutes on treadmill to warm-up and then a specific body part.
Apart from working out at the gym, Arjun Rampal also like running, swimming, practicing karate, and also plays sports such as tennis and football to stay in shape.
Arjun believes in eating everything and doesn’t avoid anything. Though he doesn’t follow any particular diet all the time, this is the diet plan he follows most of the time.
For breakfast, he prefers having blended pulp of grapes, an apple and half a grape fruit mixed with oats, flaxseeds and cherries.
About an hour and a half later, he has scrambled egg whites along with a wheat toast. A balanced lunch and dinner (by 9pm max) suits him. He also ensures that every meal has proteins and lots of carbs.
Arjun says that’s its very important to know your body type and understand what kind of a body you would be happy with.
The perfect look for Arjun is all about symmetry. Anything bigger or smaller and you know you’re going wrong.
He gets bored lifting weights at the gym and thinks it isn’t enough as his body becomes stiff. That’s why he trains in different ways such as core training, cardio with weights, playing sports such as tennis, cycling, swimming and running 10 kms once a week.
