Weight lifting belts are an optional piece of equipment (accessories) that you may require during your workout session.
So do you really need to wear a belt while lifting weights? Well, there are several theories around it.
while some lifters believe weight belts give you support, both physically and mentally, there are others who believe that belts prevent your lower back from becoming stronger and prevents your body from have a strong core.
So if a belt gives you a psychological edge, allowing you to lift heavier weights, go ahead and wear one. For really heavy sets, I believe you should use one.
Just remember that you don’t have to wear it while doing cardio!
And remember, weight lifting belts are designed to assist your midsection; it won’t help you build muscles and do the work for you.
You can chose from a wide range of leather belts, nylon belts, Velcro belts. Most users find it difficult to get an exact fit with belts with buckles, they usually prefer belts with Velcro.
Buy a belt that has a conical shape as it maintains proper alignment of the spine when lifting. Ordinary/cheap belts dig into the hips and ribs and cause discomfort.
