Vibrations remind you to take a break, tells you if you have been sitting for too long.
We all know that sitting for too long, in one position, on your desk can be hazardous to your health. Now a smart desk, fitted with sensors, reminds you that you need to take a break. It also encourages you to stand more (its a sit and stand desk).
The sensors promote healthier behaviour by telling you how long you have been sitting, how long you have been, and even how long you have been away from your desk (so you better do something worthwhile).
“You can think of the desk as a personal fitness trainer,” says Justin Lucas, founder of the Autonomous Desk. The desk comes with a pre-set training schedule. On the first day, it’ll ease you in with 30 minute standing sessions and long sit-down breaks. Each day, it’ll increase the standing time so users can gradually get used to it.
Furniture makers have realised that employees spend around 8 to 10 hours a day at the desk, so it definitely makes sense to make the desk smarter, more like your personal assistant who is always there helping you out throughout the day with various tasks.
Checkout this desk on Kickstarter that has features–like automatic reminders, is sit-stand desk, and costs only $399 (its cheaper because they aren’t using distributors and retailers).
