With an eye on the future Olympics and to groom more Indian children to take up sports, a pilot scheme has been launched for toddlers in schools that will groom them to become future sports stars.
Brainchild of district welfare officer Subhash Sasane, the pre-primary fitness and sports school (PPFNS) scheme will be implemented at all zilla parishad schools in the Kolhapur district (reaching out to almost 10,000 students across the district).
- Students will be trained in over 100 different sports, depending on their inclination.
- Children will be assessed for their abilities through activities like jumping, twist jump, free jump, step ups, jump from wall and throwing ball.
- Events and competitions will also be held to provide students with an opportunity to excel and exhibit their skills
Sasane said, “We will encourage our students to choose any of these sports and aim to win an Olympic medal in future. We hope that maximum schools will support and participate in the PPFNS model to ensure that Kolhapur district leads in the medal tally of every sports event in future.”
