Fitness Tracker: Buying Guide
What is a Fitness Tracker?
A fitness tracker (or activity tracker) is basically a device (can be an application as well) for monitoring and tracking fitness-related metrics such as distance walked or run, calorie consumption, heartbeat and even quality of sleep.
Fitness & Payments to Get Integrated
Recently, fitness wearables company Fitbit acquired Coin, a consumer electronics and financial technology firm, with the intention of embedding payment processing methods into their fitness devices (sometime in the future).
Experts say that is the logical way forward. Wearable fitness trackers are facing stiff competition from other devices, such as smartwatches, which are in fact much more versatile.
For fitness trackers to hold their own against the likes of an Apple Watch, they need to expand their utility. Integrating payment capability into their device enables firms such as Fitibit do exactly that.
For instance, by embedding NFC payment technology into their fitness trackers and smart watch, Fitbit would make life more convenient for early morning joggers who would no longer need to carry their wallet to pay for that orange juice or energy drink. Get the idea behind this feature?
CrossFit CEO Calls Fitness Trackers Junk
Fitness Trackers are quite popular in India but CrossFit CEO considers them to be Junk.
CrossFit CEO Greg Glassman, however is not impressed with these gadgets. During a CNBC Facebook live chat, when asked to share his thoughts on all of the products that moderate people’s health, Glassman simply responded, “‘Junk drawer.’ I don’t get any of them,” he said.
Why Older People Can Lose Weight Using Fitness Trackers
Fitness trackers have become popular in recent years as it allows you to assign numbers to the various aspects of your workout. Though these are not a must-have, they can definitely help you to push yourself further.

Lot of older people have credited their extra fitness to such devices/gadgets. However, you’ve to use them everyday and record your results (many just buy these and put them in the closet).
A new study (conducted on adults between ages 65 and 79) have revealed that fitness trackers can be effective in helping older people to lose weight.
