After a prolonged lockdown, Gyms all over began operations after getting guidelines from the government. And as people have always done in the past, when it’s time for a new start, they head straight to the gym.
For many, a home Gym was a practical option. Many gyms were also providing online fitness classes to their existing members who could exercise at home using minimal equipment such as exercise bands, some weights, yoga mat, and few other accessories – not at all a big investment.

But few months later, things started becoming normal and more people started to the gym and working out.
Gyms and fitness centres in India fine-tuned operational details in the Covid-Era.
Precautions such as frequent sanitization, using oximeters, thermal screening of both staff and members, spreading out equipment to maintain social distancing and keeping minimum staff (in accordance with government guidelines) started becoming the norm.
Stricter hygiene measures, limited group classes, were some of the measures that most gyms (that have reopened) took.
Before COVID-19, health clubs and home fitness segments enjoyed steady growth; however, the pandemic shifted the focus more towards working out from home. Post-COVID, fitness companies adapted to the new world by utilizing and offering streaming related fitness and work-out modules. Equipment makers and manufacturers in the at-home sector segment also experienced significant increase in demand.
Several Gyms abroad adopted new practices and are using gadgets and equipment to enhance safety for everyone around.
- Door handles were wrapped in germ-repelling vinyl.
- Bluetooth-enabled beacon (device) were used at the front desk that authenticated members using their phones and checked them in.
- Receptionist used to measure the temperature of every patron, handed out a towel, and a colored wristband reminded staff when it was time for a member to leave.
- Touchless bottle fillers replaced drinking fountains, so patrons were expected to get their own water bottles.
Also, the fitness business became less of a volume game, at least in the near future, and many of them offered the best of both worlds – online as well offline – to their members.
