What is Tabata?
No, its not a Japanese dish!
Tabata is a high intensity training method and is considered an efficient way to burn abdominal fat. When done right, Tabata helps you burn calories for hours even after your workout is complete.
These workouts are perfect for those with a busy schedule, and you barely need any equipment.
Who started Tabata Training?
Tabata is a Japanese invention, created by researcher Dr Izumi Tabata and his colleagues at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports, Japan.
Izumi and his team noted the results of moderate-intensity and high-intensity training among athletes. The results revealed that athletes who did high-intensity training showed an improved aerobic system (cardiovascular system) and anaerobic system (muscles).
Benefits of Tabata Training
- Weight loss/fat loss
- Builds endurance and Strength
- Improves metabolism and cardiovascular strength
The best thing about this form of exercise is that it can be done in a much lesser time. Even four minutes of this high-intensity interval training is almost good as training for 40 minutes!
How Is It Done?
It is a time-effective form of interval training that helps you push yourself to the limit, causing fat burn. A burst of raw aerobic activity is interspersed with an anaerobic one, to be precise. So you have bursts of high-energy activities followed by the low-intensity ones.
Usually, your weight is the only resistance that is used, you may use a combination of boot camp, power yoga and circuit training. Its best to use heart-rate monitor to see if you are hitting the optimum fat-burning rate.
