Of late, lot of people have been criticising MS Dhoni for his slower batting in the shorter form of the cricket matches.
Known for his brisk batting at the peak of his career, Dhoni is still very fit, but his batting has slowed down in a bit in the last few months. There are many who think he should step down and make way for a younger player.
However, senior cricket players feel the vast experience that he brings on the ground, and his sporting acumen, makes him a much more valuable player, and there’s no one else in the tea who brings that combination on the ground.

Not a Gym Person
Though working out in the gym is a must for sportsmen, Dhoni does so grudgingly. He always prefers a run, or a game of football, or indoor exercises like badminton, instead of working out.
So how come he is so fit?
When asked about this fitness secrets, Dhoni says, “I even don’t know the secret because I really don’t do the gym works and all. But I started off as a footballer, so the training I did over there is helping me a lot.”
Dhoni says he is from Almora, located in the hilly region of Uttarakhand. “Basically the genes are helping me in my fitness,” says Dhoni. He works hard on his fitness but says that it is quite natural for him.
Loves Sports
Dhoni loves playing all kinds of sports, besides cricket, which goes a long way to help his fitness levels.
Those around him, say Dhoni is very good at badminton and football, and often skips a session at the gym for a game of these sports instead.
Badminton is great for eye work and honing your reflexes, which is very helpful for wicket keepers. Football helps improve footwork, stamina and contributes to his ability to run between wickets (he is among the fastest runners in the Indian cricket team).
What Does He Eat?
Like most Indians, M.S Dhoni loves Butter Chicken too, however that is just once in a while. His everyday diet is extremely light and healthy.
Dhoni says the kind of food you eat is more important than fitness training.
Here’s what he eats through-out the day.
- Breakfast is wholesome, and usually consists of porridge with fresh fruits and nuts. A glass of milk accompanies this hearty breakfast.
- For lunch, he has chapattis with daal or chicken (for added protein), with mixed vegetable salad on the side.
- Chicken sandwich is his preferred snack/munchie in the evening when hunger pangs strike.
During cricket matches, Dhoni has protein drinks and fresh juices, keeps him hydrated and his energy levels elevated.
So what about the rumours that Dhoni used to drink five liters of milk every day? Many cricket fans still believe that. Is that true?
No says Dhoni, its an exaggeration, although he accepts that he love dairy products, be it milk or curd.
