The Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust (ABFT) will establish and operate a high-performance rehabilitation, fitness and sports science facility in Bengaluru (Bangalore).
A high-performance facility for rehabilitation, fitness-training and sports science (“Facility”) is being setup at Yelahanka in Bengaluru, at the Centre at the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence.
Badminton great Prakash Padukone and Creicket legend Rahul Dravid had come together to help budding athletes at the Centre for Sports Excellence, now with Abhinav Bindra (India’s only individual Olympic gold medallist) coming into the picture, the centre will become an attractive prospect for budding sportspersons from across the country.
The Facility will be named as the “Sports Authority of India (SAI)-Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Centre”.
Government of India has granted a financial assistance of Rs. Five Crores from the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) to Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust (ABFT) to purchase state-of-the-art sports science equipment for the centre.
Athletes selected for national camps will be allowed to use the facilities at the Bengaluru-based centre free of cost.
Cricket and football grounds are already functional and academies have started utilising the facilities on a daily basis. The centre will also have badminton and squash courts, and two swimming pools — one that will be indoor and heated, and the other which will be an Olympic-sized 10-lane pool.
