About Kalaripayattu
Watch: Kalaripayattu in action
Practice of Kalaripayattu was banned in India under the British rule. Despite that, the secrets of kalaripayattu have been passed down by the masters who are now trying to revive this little-known, ancient form of martial arts.
Watch 76 years old Meenakshiamma, from Vatakara (Kozhikode in Kerala). Impressive, isn’t it. She teaches kalarippayattu martial art. I guess India needs more of Meenakshi Ammas (and fewer restrictions on women) to protect women.
Kalaripayattu vs Kung Fu
There are many in Kerala who believe that Kalaripayattu was the first Martial Art to be developed and gave birth to Shaolin kung fu and jiu jitsu (although no solid evidence exists).

Because Chinese Kungfu is famous around the world, Indians claim Chinese Kungfu is from india. Why not say Judo has origins from India? Because they don’t show Judo in movies. Because lot of Indians work for Google, Microsoft, Indians like to take credit for their product launches. South Koreans also do this.
