I think the brown bread thing is overrated in India bcoz its not real brown bread, they apply brown colour to maida.
You should eat multi-grain bread…but its expensive and not readily available.

Vegetarians can have chana as snacks whenever you are hungry…its good for weight loss. Have a bowl of roasted chana for effective weight loss at home.

Avoid chai biscuit. Indians are fond of having tea…or coffee with white milk and sugar. They consume several cups in a day. There are some who eat biscuits with it…espcially Glucose biscuit which is high on sugar. You need to get rid of these habits if your really want to see some benefits. Go in for marie biscuit, the whole ones…though I doubt if its really ‘whole grains’…somehow don’t trust the healthy foods available in most Indian cities.
