Coaches of several Indian sports team (especially those associated with the younger teams) have stressed the importance of mental toughness along with high physical fitness levels, so that they cam compete at the highest levels.
For a long time now, foreign coaches in India have been stressing on the fact that the mental aspect is directly related to success in sports. The teams need to stay focused for longer periods (as most tournaments last for several days/weeks) in order to give optimal results.
Most coaches think that physically, Indian sportsmen are in much better shape nowadays. but its the Mental strength they need to work upon, and most coaches are trying to do that with the younger sportsmen in India.
That’s what the head coach Nicolai Adam of the India U-16 football team is also stressing upon.
Says, head coach Nicolai Adam, “Right now compliments are coming in from all quarters as the boys are working really hard. But at the end, it’s all about developing the winning mentality — the mentality of winning or losing.”
“The boys remember that they have the chance to hopefully play five games in a period of 11 days. That means they have a game almost every alternate day. It’s important they strike the right balance. For that you need to work harder,” he added.
